Week 7

Marble Jar Treat...

Unbelievably our marble jar had become full! We get a marble in the jar every-time someone finishes the day with their peg on the 'Outstanding' smiley face in school. Everyone starts the day on 'Ready to Learn' and there are 2 smiley faces higher than that and two lower than that! (But mainly we all move upwards!)

We have had such great attitudes to learning, kindness and caring for our school that we had to chose what our treat would be.
The children came up with some great weather relevant treats and we had a vote. The winner was movie afternoon with snacks. So...on Friday we all brought in our comfy clothes and settled down with popcorn to a choice of 2 movies, one in red room and one in blue room!

After a few technical problems(Mrs Ward and Miss Arnold saved the day) movie afternoon continued!!
We then had a great end of term assembly with Miss Wones and many grown ups.

Well done Team Hickling for a fantastic start to the academic year. Lets keep up our good work heading forward into...Christmas!!!

Below are the WOW wall and certificate winners!

Gressenhall Trip Photos...

The Year 1's and 2's had a great time at Gressenhall. We learnt what it was like to live in the 1950's! The photos will give you a flavour of the things we saw, the people we met and the experiences we encountered. To get a real insight you will have to read our recounts in our English books!

(Unfortunately, because we were in mixed school groups, you might not see a picture of your child but you will be able to use the photos to talk about their experience...)

Week 6

Hedgehogs, Gressenhall and Celebrations!

This week we had a surprise visit from Celene's Nanny who brought a special guest with her...a baby hedgehog!

We asked lots of questions and found out information about how to care for hedgehogs.

Look how cute it was...

A big thank you to Celene's Nanny!

Year 1 and 2 went on a trip to Gressenhall on Wednesday, where we learnt about life in the 1950's. We met a lady called Maisie Modern who had a very posh house. We danced to her records and we looked at her new fridge!

We also met Doreen who lived in a simpler house. She only had a range stove to cook her food on. She made us a toasted sandwich with melted cheese in the middle and egg on the outside. It was delicious!!

Finally we visited the farm where we have a very BUMPY tractor ride!

All in all we had a great trip and the children were beautifully behaved as usual.

PHOTOS TO FOLLOW...

Reception had their first Reception class federation day at Sutton. They celebrated Harvest by making leaf crafts, decorating biscuits, drinking homemade apple juice and much more! After a shy start they all ended up making new friends. Great job in your first half term!!

Celebration assembly was really well attended so thank you to all the adults. The children love performing the songs and celebrating their friends achievements.

Week 4 and 5...

Harvest Harvest Everywhere...

Week 4 saw us celebrate Harvest with the help of the Salvation Army.

We collected food for the 'Tins and Toys' appeal and a lovely man called Richard came to celebrate with us and take the food away.

The children performed poems and songs and Miss Wones read a poem too!

It was a lovely occasion and a big thank you to all the parents and friends that supported.

Week 5 - Open Morning and Maths Cafe...

At our school we love to invite people in to show them how hard we work, what beautiful manners we have and what a great place it is to learn in!

Four of our Year 2's were chosen to be tour guides; Beth, Bertie, Emily N and Henry M. They showed people around with a smile and were a real credit to the school.

Our Friday afternoon maths cafe was lots of fun! Penguins escaped all over our school, inside and out, and we had to follow clues to find the penguins. Each penguin had a number on it! We wrote the numbers down then ordered the numbers from smallest to biggest.
We had a huge amount of family and friends come and it was lovely to share the learning together.

Straight after was celebration assembly. We had many WOW moments...including feeding a hedgehog and getting a photo of it!

The winners were: Year 2 - All the tour guides for representing the school so well.

Year 1 - Ebony for always putting in 100% to everything she does! Also Oliver for brilliant progress in phonics and his writing.

Reception - Celene for being so helpful in class to others and Ishtar for really impressive sounding out in her writing!

Well done Team Hickling for another great week of learning!
