Cake and hot chocolate!

Group 1 had a terrific treat on Wednesday afternoon at Forest School when we celebrated Emily's birthday with cake and hot chocolate around our campfire.  We also found time to climb trees, build dens and get busy in our mud kitchen.

Last week group 2 had great fun building a huge leaf mountain and then jumping in it!  Thanks Bertie for a such a great idea!

Week 11...

What a busy week!

This week we have been practicing hard for our Nativity, in between our normal learning. We have been taking inspiration from Michael Rosen. We watched him perform some of his own poems on the internet. We love the way he uses his face and hands to add great expression - that's what we are going to try and do in our performance!

Links Afternoon...

We had a really great Christmas themed Links afternoon. There was a really nice atmosphere with Christmas music being played and a choice of decorations that could be made. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend.

Chapel Christmas Trees...

We also took a walk up to the Chapel in the village to see our Christmas tree in the competition. Art club made the decorations for the tree using lollipop sticks, glue, spray paint and glitter! We didn't win the competition but we enjoyed looking at all the other trees and have some good ideas for next years competition! We met Mrs Elliott there who answered some questions we had about the Chapel and what people do there. The food fayre was also going on at the same time so we saw some familiar faces from the village too.
On our way out we noticed the duck pond was half frozen! We threw things at the ice to see what would happen and how much pressure it could take before it cracked!

We're Going on a Bear Hunt...

Finally on Friday we went into Norwich to the Playhouse Theatre to see; We're Going on a Bear Hunt. Everyone really enjoyed the performance which was packed with songs, music and funny moments. We were lucky enough to be on the front 2 rows and so had lots of interaction with the characters!
Miss Arnold took some sneaky photos during the performance so you could see how much fun it was.

Quotes from the trip;

"I loved all of it!" Jack - Year 1
"I liked the part where we got soaked by the water pistols!"  Emily Ellis - Year 2
"I liked it when we had to shout to the characters that the bear was behind them!" Lily - Year 1

Wonderful Autumn!

Forest School group 1 enjoyed the beautiful autumn sunshine this week.  First Miss Wones asked us to find a leaf and then we had to be tree detectives to discover which tree it may have fallen from. We were amazed by all the different colours and shapes of the leaves we found!

Before we went in, we had time to light a fire and toasted some marshmallows - yummy!

Hopefully the weather will be just as lovely for group 2 next week.

Week 9...

How to Catch a Star & Whatever Next!

This week all our learning in Year 1 and  has been based around a story called 'How to Catch a Star' by Oliver Jeffers. Miss Arnold was really mean and didn't let us read the book all week! She made us guess and predict and use our imagination!

First we thought of our own ideas of how we could catch a star.

Ideas by Lexie, Year 1.

The next day Miss Arnold gave us some RUBBISH instructions of how to make an origami star!
We all got really frustrated but we learnt that instructions have to be really clear and use imperative (bossy) verbs!

The next day Miss Arnold gave us some instructions that were clear and had imperative verbs in. They were to make star biscuits. We all made biscuits in the hall and then ate them afterwards! We learnt that instructions have to be clear and concise!

Finally today we wrote our own instructions about how to catch a star. We used everything we had learnt during the week to help us with our writing.

 Max, Year 1
Beth, Year 2

In Reception we have been learning about the story 'Whatever Next'. All week we have been linking our learning to the story; counting stars accurately, re-telling the story, creating our own rockets and even having a picnic on the moon!
